You believe in your story. I surrender to it. Capture it. And hand it back to you in a way you can remember forever.

You're about to embark on the most wonderful of adventures. Because you're here that tells me you value epic, mind-blowing photography. Well done!

I'm fortunate, and sometimes I have to pinch myself when I think about how much I love what I do. I illustrate every story you trust me with.

Incredible photographs result from a trusted relationship between us. This comes from a friendship, and from time invested in getting to know you, and why you have chosen the different elements that will make up your wedding day. Think of me as a visual biographer of sorts, a narrator, telling your story through the images of your day.

I want you to be blown away by how beautiful you really are, by how beautiful I see you to be.

Lets get started!

+ you are beautiful

Another home run for the team! The folks at Irongate Creative, along with First Bank Richmond and Susanna Tanner Photography put their collective creativity together for yet another awesome First Bank Billboard.

What an absolute treat to meet and work with Charlie for this project. We had a great afternoon on stage; Charlie in costume, reciting lines for us from his previous performances. He absolutely made the afternoon for me.

Girls Inc Wayne County :: Commercial Photography :: Susanna Tanner Photography

Keep your eyes open as you drive around the Richmond area. This billboard art was inspired by our Mother/Daughter Girls Inc. photo shoots. Simple black and white photography that allows emotion and messages to come forward. Not muddled by distractions, color, or chaos. I really enjoy creating these images, and am even more inspired by the fact that Girls Inc. does such great things for girls of all ages in our area. Strong, Smart, Bold…oh yeah!

Some images bring a smile to your face to look at, and this is one of those for me. Maybe I’m partial because Chandler was such a great model for our photo shoot. Or maybe I’m partial because I was lucky enough to be part of a great creative team, partnering with Irongate Creative. It was a fun photo shoot, a happy occasion, and a beautiful day. What more can you ask for when it comes to photography.

If you live in Richmond, chances are you’ve seen this billboard too. Doesn’t it make you smile?

Being Thankful

by November 8th, 2010 No Comments »

I received a phone call from Ellen the other day. Her story is amazing, not unlike a lot of the stories of breast cancer survivors. I just love this photo of her and her hubby, by the way.

Ellen and her husband Tim

I met Ellen and her family through the Reid Foundations “I am thankful” campaign. Working with Reid to capture the images and stories of how the hospital and staff has positively influences people’s lives around the Wayne County and surround area, I met a lot of very interesting people with interesting stories. But Ellen captured my heart. Maybe because I’m a mom like her, maybe because I could imagine how she might have felt when she heard her diagnosis, or just maybe it was because we’re really not too far apart in age.

When I talked with Ellen, she mentioned no one had photographed her since her diagnosis. She wouldn’t let them – – until now. And I am so, so honored to be the first once since to capture Ellen and her family together.  Ellen you have an amazing spirit! I think it shows below, don’t you?

This photo was choosen to be the cover shot for the "I am Thankful" campaign book.

Below are the inside pages of the campaign piece and MORE amazing stories of how Reid has touched people’s lives.

This piece/project has been one of my favorites to be a part of. It truly takes a team of story gathers and writers at the Reid Foundation, (a photographer) and a wonderful graphic designer, Janhavi Vora, at CS Kern who did the hard work of bringing the pieces together to make an outstanding publication. Read on!

More “doable” campaign

by September 23rd, 2010 1 Comment »

The best thing about my job is the people I meet. I know, everyone says that. But I feel lucky to be involved in a profession where creative minds can join forces and come out with a really cool project. Cope Environmental Center is one of those projects. Not only was it visually appealing to me, but the message behind the campaign is something I personally can get behind.

A new campaign was being created and Cope asked me if I would be a part of the photography process. They explained the project and I was more than happy to work with Stephanie of the Cope Center and Jeff Huffine, of IronGate Creative Works. Jeff did the design work for the campaign and I have to tell you, it’s really awesome. Good design enhances photography and visa versa. Thanks for making me look good Jeff!

If you’re driving around Richmond you may have seen a current billboard for this campaign.

Another image I love from this shoot…

Billboard Photography::Reid Hospital

If you’re from Richmond or surrounding counties you’ve seen this billboard:

Another opportunity for me to work with the great folks at Reid Hospital to create an interesting portrait. I arrived at the photo shoot location while Dr. Han was finishing up working on a patient. There was an observation window and I could see from a distance what was happening. A reminder to me that this is serious business, and the message to everyone is that Sensei robotics is cutting edge technology available to all of us should we need it. Although I must confess, I hope I don’t.

You may have seen them around town…the COPE Environmental Center billboards. Don’t they look snazzy?! The folks at IronGate Creative put together an awesome design for Cope’s awareness campaign. I love the color palette. And who was lucky enough to work with these great professionals supplying the photography for the billboards? Me! Keep watching for more Cope billboards in the future. And while you’re at it, spend some time at Cope Environmental Center to learn how living green is doable.

Reid: Being Part of a New Campaign

by December 8th, 2009 No Comments »

Earlier this year I was invited by the Reid Foundation to be a part of creating their most recent campaign, “I am Thankful”.  We spent a lot of time visiting and photographing various individuals in and around the community who were positively impacted by the services provided by Reid Hospital & Health Care Services. And in many instances these services were lifesaving, in one way or another.

Taken straight from their website, the Foundation supports the team at Reid Hospital & Health Care Services and their mission to promote wholeness – in body, mind, and spirit. Due to the generosity of so many in the Reid community, Richmond is the home to a state-of-the-art medical facility, top talent, and the highest quality of care.

If you have a few minutes, read some of the touching stories at http://www.reidhospital.org/index.cfm?pageID=295 and to view a really cool interactive web publication go to http://webtools.reidhospital.org/foundation/flashiat/index.php

This is just one of the many stories about Reid Hospital's positive impact on community lives.

Community Partnering

I know, I’ve been quiet lately and haven’t done such a great job of staying current on the blogging front. So, what has ST Photography been up to, you might wonder (or not)?

A few months ago I was contacted by Insight Design and the Wayne County Foundation to provide the photography for their annual report. What an awesome opportunity to learn about some of the great things happening in Wayne County.

The month of May was busily filled with several photo shoots for their publication, all while trying to make a deadline. I was a bit worried weather or other circumstances would make things difficult, but as soon as the images were taken, designer (and owner of Insight Designs) Jenie Lahman placed them the final design. And yes, we had sunny days, the deadline was met and the piece turned out great. Take a look!(It’s a 2 MG file so give it a minute to download)

My Secret Photography Life

by June 11th, 2009 No Comments »

I’m not a fan of secrets, but of course there are some things you just can’t share right off the bat. I’ve been involved in some pretty cool photography projects lately but am not at liberty to show you the results YET, except for this one…

In May, I was contacted by Marquette University to photograph one of their alums for a publication coming out this spring. The alum works for Andretti/Green racing, so I was lucky enough to photograph her track side during preparations for the Indy 500. The speedway was buzzing with activity which was quiet a rush.
