You believe in your story. I surrender to it. Capture it. And hand it back to you in a way you can remember forever.

You're about to embark on the most wonderful of adventures. Because you're here that tells me you value epic, mind-blowing photography. Well done!

I'm fortunate, and sometimes I have to pinch myself when I think about how much I love what I do. I illustrate every story you trust me with.

Incredible photographs result from a trusted relationship between us. This comes from a friendship, and from time invested in getting to know you, and why you have chosen the different elements that will make up your wedding day. Think of me as a visual biographer of sorts, a narrator, telling your story through the images of your day.

I want you to be blown away by how beautiful you really are, by how beautiful I see you to be.

Lets get started!

+ you are beautiful

New Wedding Album Options :: Susanna Tanner Photography :: Indianapolis, IN wedding photographer

by May 17th, 2013 No Comments »

Who can resist an album design of pretty wedding details showing your own personal story? I know I can’t. I love the journey a wedding album takes you on, from the beginning of the day to the very end. And I can imagine generations to come flipping through the pages, in awe of grandma and grandpa’s wedding day.

For the most part a lot of clients want albums and it THRILLS me to see the finished beautiful product. Nothing makes me more proud! I realize that not everyone can afford one but that’s why I also offer the option of purchasing an album later on. No one should miss out on that opportunity. It really is priceless and all you have left when the day is over.

It also makes you wonder what technology will be like in 30 years and how the digital media of today will hold up. Books have proven to hold up throughout the years.

This year I attended Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) annual conference, and one of my goals was to find one of the best albums for my clients. There are a ton of companies offering great products, but my search was for quality, simplicity, and affordability. And I found a company I think you’ll be pleased with.

Mother’s Day Gift Idea::Richmond, IN Photographer, Indianapolis, IN Photographer

by May 6th, 2013 No Comments »

Six days and counting! That’s it until Mother’s Day. So for all the dads out there still searching for that just perfect present, or moms who are still dropping hints to their guys and kids for that perfect gift to honor them–think about a gift card for a photography session. Time is fragile, gone before you can even grasp it in your hand. The kids change, you change, you remember when… So, before you order another bouquet of flowers, or buy another piece of jewelry, consider giving a gift that will be with her forever. I can think of nothing better than a family portrait or a portrait of mom with her children to celebrate how special she is.

(Gift cards may be applied to the session fee, prints, albums, or wall art).

Susanna Tanner Photography: Celebrating Mother’s Day

by May 4th, 2012 No Comments »

Grilled cheese (or grilled peanut butter) and a bowl of steaming tomato soup, topped off with crunched up Saltines. This meal used to make the worst case of strep throat feel so much better. But who am I kidding. It wasn’t just the food that made me feel better but the person who brought it to me. My mom. Knowing that she was there, taking care of me, and stroking my hair as she listened to me whine about how bad I felt was all the comfort I needed to get through my nasty sore throat.

Mother’s Day is a week away. You’re thinking about honoring your mom (or maybe your wife) for all the special, unacknowledged things that she does throughout the year. Flowers? Nice, but they don’t last. Earrings? It’s always great to get something new to wear buuuuuutt (sing songy tone–can you hear it?) what about an experience? A family experience that turns into a personal piece of wall art, that eventually reminds you of a special time in your history? A memory. What about the gift of a photo shoot for your wife, mom or any other special female in your life to showcase her role as a mother?

I look forward to making your shopping easier this year. Even more important, I look forward to helping create a lifelong memory for your family.

Richmond, Indiana Portrait Photography::Product Goodies

by January 12th, 2012 No Comments »

I hope everyone is having a great start to 2012. I know I’m enjoying the slower pace that January seems to offer and tend to just want to hibernate in front of the fireplace with a blanket and a good movie!

Below are a few products I want to highlight for the new year. I think you’ll like them if you’re not already familiar with them.

GALLERY WRAPS

Gallery wraps are YOUR image printed on canvas and stretched over stretcher bars. It’s so easy! They are lightweight and come ready to hang. It’s a great alternative for art in your home other than framing and matting a photo.

PHOTO BOOTH FILM STRIPS

Film Strips are a fun way to show off your images. They come in sets of three as you can see below. Great news, I just found out you can mix and match your set of three, or have all three sets the same.

ACCORDION BOOKS

A favorite with new moms especially, these 3″ x 3″ books showcase your favorite images. Great for showing off a series of images (see below) or you can choose a few images from each location in your photo shoot. Covers for the books can either be leather, linen, or a photo cover. They’re held together magnetically so there’s no chance of it popping open in your purse or backpack and getting ruined. Below are two views of the same accordion book.

Cheers!

Earned Adoration

by January 22nd, 2011 No Comments »

He’s a multifaceted athlete. Soccer, swimming, golf. He’s ambitions. In fact, he’s hoping to pursue Mechanical Engineering next year as a freshman. But the thing I love, love, love about Ian is that he’s an incredible big brother. All you have to do is take a look at his younger sister and brother and you can see the adoration in their eyes. I have no doubt this adoration has been earned.

They (who is THEY exactly??) say the best things come in small packages. This time, I would have to agree. I ran across this product option and had to try it out for myself before telling you about it. The Accordion Mini Book is perfect when you’re having a tough time narrowing down your image selections. With 11 sides to fill, you’ll be able to print and keep all of your favorites in one place.

Places it would be useful: gifts for your wedding party. Instead of giving them something beforehand, give this after the big day or as a follow up thank you to your friends who so graciously agreed to incur bridesmaid dress purchases and tuxedo rentals. Or what about a new mom who has tons of adorable newborn images to choose from and a senior who wants to capture a sequence of actions?

The great thing is when they are folded up, they’re small! Measuring a square 3 x 3 size, they fit in purses, backpacks, even a back pocket (although I don’t advise that for long).

Wedding Package Albums

by January 13th, 2011 No Comments »

A lot of times I work with brides that don’t live close by. The internet makes it easily to talk over plans but sometimes it’s hard to describe items and products that are relevant, so I thought it might be nice to post a few photos of the album that’s included in my top wedding package. Keep in mind, if you’re reading this and you’re NOT a bride to be, these albums are great for ANY type of photo session, i.e. new babies, families, seniors.

You may remember reading about Shannon and Eric’s wedding. This is a small peek at their package album.

The cover has a gloss coating on it. Great for protection, but as you can see there is a bit of a reflective quality to it. The inside pages can be either a gloss finish or matte, your choice. My personal choice is the matte coating. Inside has a wonderful, silky smooth feeling as you turn the pages. Almost buttery. And glare is very minimal, if at all.

The package album comes with 40 pages, however you can upgrade to include more pages if you like. It’s all in the layout and how large you want your images featured.

One snow day is great. Three is too many. Today, I have the place to myself. I’ve spent the last couple of days going back and forth between holing up to work on wedding albums for clients AND helping the kiddos get themselves ready for playing in the snow. Tugging on snow pants, boots, gloves, and whatever else, my youngest looked like an overstuffed marsh mellow (or like Ralphie’s brother in his snowsuit in one of the most funny Christmas movies, “A Christmas Story”. If you need a memory nudge…”I want an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle! And Santa says, You’ll shoot your eye out, kid.”) Needless to say, the snow is deep!

Deep snow

But I’ve managed to send a couple albums to press. In fact, one album company I work with, Asukabook, has a really cool online slide show of your album once the order is received. It’s active for a year and makes it possible to show off your album to family and friends far away or (cough, cough) or those snowed in. This album was created for a mother and father of the bride. Take a look.

And now, looking forward to shooing a Valentine Wedding in the snow!

Cool New Feature for Asukabook Albums

by September 10th, 2009 4 Comments »

Are you thinking about how to display the images from your photo shoot? Asukabook recently came out with a new feature. When you order an album (which is what I consider a fine art coffee table book), you also get a link to your album ONLINE! You can send it to your family and friends. Another great way to display your priceless images.

This link shows an album I recently put together for a mother-of-the-bride. Click on http://albumonline.asukabook.com/album/?key=7a2385c92078

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Awesome New Album

by July 21st, 2009 No Comments »

Lately I’ve been working with a lot of couples in Indy and Dayton. While I love working in new venues, it makes it  more challenging to coordinate our schedules to discuss final image presentation. (One piece of advice as you contemplate a photo session…think about HOW you want to present the images from that session. Framing? Scrapbooking? Wall mounting? Albums or Coffee Table Books?)

album-1

While it’s still best to hold a studio sample album in your hands and look at the actual pages, I thought blogging about a new album I’m carrying might help some of those couples who are dealing with distance and time issues.

This spring I added two new album offerings to the mix. The one I want to show you today is called the Premium Leather Album. The leather cover is available in a variety of colors (over 20!). I love some of the choices that are available, like apple green and bright red. Some couples pick the colors from their wedding, others chose to lean towards the more traditional colors of brown and black.

album-7

Take a quick look at a few of the details:

  • First class, hand crafted  leather, textures and colors
  • Customizable options such as personal embossing of your album and spine hubs
  • Square, panoramic, or rectangular photo album sizes, ranging from 4 x 5 to 11 x 14
  • Each album begins with 20 pages and can be customized to include more
  • Lay flat properties, meaning that the book will open up and lay completely flat
  • Each spread (two facing pages) is lustre-coated making your images pop on the page
  • The digital files from your book are backed up on a server, guaranteeing your book will always be there should you ever need to reprint

album-3

album-41

Are these books just for weddings? Of course not. They make great showcases for new baby photos, senior photos, a series of family photos….

This is just one way to preserve your images in a very sophisticated, first class way.  And for those of you who have a hard time deciding what single prints to order, you can include just about all the images from your photo shoot.

Asuka Books are Here!

by February 8th, 2008 1 Comment »

So, you’re looking for something different. Something that makes a statement about you. Something contemporary and fun! Well, I’m excited to be able to offer a new option to clients, a beautifully bound coffee table style album with the quality and feel of a fine art book. These books are great and one of my favorites!

What an awesome way to showcase your photo session. So many times I hear clients say,”How will I ever be able to decide which photos to order? I want them all.” And now you can, showcasing your images in a timeless, attractive book for display in your home or office.

Anna and Ricardo did just that. They loved their wedding photographs and decided to go for a personally designed album using their favorite images to create a lasting memory. We talked over the images and colors they wanted to emphasize, cover options and even discussed incorporating a poem read at their wedding. Some couples design an album of their engagement photographs to use at their wedding for a guest book sign-in, as well as adding pages for their guest to write funny or sentimental notes to the bride and groom.

azukabook-_1.jpg

azukabook-_3-low-rez.jpg

The quality is like any high-quality coffee table photography book you would find at a large bookstore such as Barnes & Noble. Asuka books come in a variey of styles, sizes and page counts (20 up to 80 pages), and are wonderfully versatile. A 5 x 5 book makes a wonderful parent, maternity or baby album and fits easily into a handbag. The 10 x 10 book, with a mix of your ideas and taste, along with our design and layout abilities create a stunning wedding album. Covers range from leather with embossing, faux leather, or printed book jackets. A vellum page lines the inside pages, which are available with a laminate Glossy or Matte finish allowing the vibrant colors of your images to pop!

To receive more detailed information and a brochure, please email me at stphotography@verizon.net. I’ll be happy to sit down with you and go over all the options as well as show you a sample. This is one idea worth checking into!
